ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Lucie.

Originally hailing from the rolling green hills of the South of Great Britain, I soon determined that I was in requirement of a little more sunshine and a lot more adventure and so, as I turned 19, I packed a bag, crossed the border and relocated to the South of France. I happily immersed myself amongst the rich French culture as I unravelled & absorbed the language and met the locals. With the abundance of Mediterranean sun came an equal abundance of delightful fresh food and produce. From the mouth-watering porcini of the Italian Riviera to the sun-kissed olives of the Greek Islands, I began to understand the connection between food and pleasure.

It wasn’t long before I found myself working on the yachts. What I lacked in experience I made up for in enthusiasm and I was fortunate to be given an array of opportunities that delivered me into the world of travel and fine food.

I had found my calling.

I soon became aware that when thrown into the deep end, not only did I swim for survival – but for enjoyment. I worked for exclusive clients; creating custom meals, visiting remote, idyllic locations and interacting with a myriad of inspiring people from all walks of life. From Russian millionaires to Indian street kids, I’ve been fortunate to collect conversations, friendships and memories that will stay with me forever.

In the galley I was at my most innovative. At times, the boat would be healthily loaded with supplies with access to an abundance of mainland food. However for anyone who has spent any time on a yacht, they will tell you that this type of convenience is not always the case. Many times we were in such remote locations that a more elemental approach was required. In these times, not only were creativity and resourcefulness an option, but a necessity.

Luckily there are lots of ways to use a coconut.

For the past fifteen years, life as a Private Chef has taken me around the world (possibly a few times over) and has satiated a thirst for adventure and nature whilst gifting me a prolific vocation that I adore.

Travelling and food are a marriage made in heaven. Whether it was sailing through the exotic islands of the Caribbean, gazing into the deep blue hues of the South Pacific, browsing through colourful, fragrant markets of South East Asia or simply marvelling at the pristine beauty of a remote New Zealand coastline, each new destination brought with it an abundance of culinary inspiration.

But the gypsy had to find a home somewhere….

After much globe traversing, I became fervent to put down some roots. Before I had time to deliberate where,
I had found myself on the shores of the east coast of Australia…. Byron Bay.

It was paradise.

As it turned out, it was just too good to leave (well not permanently).

And I am fortuitous to now call it home.

The laid-back lifestyle, stunning beaches, sub-tropical climate and abundance of quality, fresh organic produce makes it a pleasure to wake up here each day.

Throughout my career, I’ve come to learn a lot about myself; about food and about how the alchemy of food is so incredibly powerful.

As I’ve cooked for rehabilitation centres and retreats over the years, I have witnessed the miraculous transformation that takes place in people as they are rejuvenated through food. Food is much more than just sustenance and energy – food is thy medicine: powerfully restorative and preventative when used right. Food is support, comfort and love… A way of bringing people together; it is a celebration of nature.

When we share our table with food, story and laughter, we are indeed creating memories. It connects us all.

And this is why I do what I do.

For some, food may simply be the contents of their plate. But for me: food is life, love and art.

Let me feed your soul!
